Public holidays in Poland 2026

When you don't have to work, which holidays are “lost” to weekends, where one day of leave gives you four — and how many hours you must work each month.

14 holidays Norm 2026: 2008 h · 251 days
Public holidays (dni ustawowo wolne od pracy) are days off for everyone on an employment contract. In retail, hotels and shift-based production you may work on a holiday — for that you're owed +100% pay or another day off. The hours norm is calculated per the Labour Code (art. 130) for full-time.

A holiday on Saturday reduces the hours norm (the employer must give another day off); a holiday on Sunday does not. That's Labour Code art. 130 §2.

Which holidays are days off in Poland

Poland has 14 public holidays a year. Eight have fixed dates (New Year, Epiphany, 1 and 3 May, 15 August, 1 and 11 November, Christmas), while Easter, Pentecost and Corpus Christi move with the Easter date. Since 2025, Christmas Eve (24 December) is a day off too. A holiday on Sunday gives no extra day off; a holiday on Saturday obliges the employer to give another day off in the same settlement period.

Working on a holiday: what you're owed

In production, logistics, hotels and retail (with limits) you may work on a holiday. The employer must then give another day off, or if that's impossible — +100% pay for every hour. Work it out in the overtime calculator.

FAQ

Is Christmas Eve (24 December) a day off?
Yes — since 2025 Wigilia is a public holiday and a day off work. In 2026 it is on the list as well.
The holiday fell on a Saturday — do I lose the day off?
No. A Saturday holiday reduces the working-time norm by 8 hours, so the employer must give you another day off in the same settlement period. A Sunday holiday gives no extra day.
What is wymiar czasu pracy and why does it matter?
It's the number of hours you must work in a month full-time. Anything above it is overtime with a premium. So it pays to know your month's norm: in February or December it's noticeably lower.
