What relocation for a job costs

The biggest stress of moving is not knowing how much money you need up front. Add up the one-off costs until your first salary: travel, housing, deposit and a buffer.

Rough figures at average prices. Actual expenses depend on the city, housing and your lifestyle. If the employer provides housing — you can subtract rent and deposit.
Approximate room/bed rent. You can change the amount below.
If yes — rent and deposit are not counted.
Bus ~300–500 zł, plane — more.
Food, transport, phone for the first month.
Multiplies travel and living buffer (housing is shared).

Travel
First month of housing
Deposit (kaucja, ~1 month)
Living buffer
Documents, small items
Your first paycheck usually arrives at the end of the first full month. That's why it's important to have a buffer for exactly that period.

What relocation cost consists of

  • Travel — a one-way ticket (bus is cheapest).
  • First month's housing — paying upfront for a room or a shared bed.
  • Kaucja (deposit) — usually one month's rent, refunded when you move out.
  • A cash buffer — food, transport, phone/internet, until your first paycheck arrives.
  • Documents and small stuff — photos, copies, trips to government offices, a SIM card.

If the employer provides housing — and many legal jobs do — starting costs drop sharply: mainly just travel and a small buffer are left. That's why it's worth asking about housing while you're still comparing offers.
